The client's brief was to deliver a new building to comprise of 32,000 ft2 of workshop space with flexible office accommodation.
The current facilities at the AMP Technology Centre for start-up, growing small companies, academic spin out or companies of a larger organisation was insufficient and demand for more units was growing. Tenants were driving for units of approximately 2000-3000 ft2 of serviced workshop with accessibility to office space units sized approximately 1000-2000 ft2 which are currently taken at the present two buildings at the Technology Centre.
The prime objective was the creation of a high quality facility that provided the HCA with a building with an impressive presence for a high tech facility for future tenants/organisations who provide the best working environment for staff and excellent service to clients.
The client’s aspirations for high quality architecture have been delivered. The selection of the external and internal materials was a key decision making process throughout the design.
The first tenant is Metlase, a joint-venture between Rolls-Royce and Unipart which provides bespoke engineering solutions to complex problems.
