ENVIRONMENTAL ENERGY TECHNOLOGY CENTRE

  • LOCATED IN THE WAVERLEY ADVANCED MANUFACTURING PARK IN ROTHERHAM, THIS BREEAM ‘EXCELLENT’ BUILDING PROVIDES 1440M2 OF FLEXIBLE OFFICE ACCOMMODATION AND 600M2 OF WORKSHOP SPACE FOR SME’S IN THE FIELD OF LOW CARBON AND FUEL CELL ENERGY INDUSTRIES.
  • The building creates as a primary hub for the UK’s advanced metals and engineering cluster. The appointment followed the completion of the masterplan for the entire regeneration site in 2002.

A key element of the new low carbon sustainable centre is an iconic renewable energy mini-grid which supplies electricity and heat to tenants and provides a working ‘R&D’ demonstration space to test new technologies. A wind turbine powered hydrogen cell system will enable the building to be self-sufficient in electricity, having energy supplied through hydrogen generation and hydrogen storage.

In order to reduce excessive solar gains to the first and second floors, high performance glazing, coupled with external brise soleil in the form of horizontal mini-blades, were incorporated to the southeast façade. Additionally, a ceramic fritted coating was applied to the outer pane of the high performance double-glazing system to the northwest façade.
