GOVAN INTERCHANGE

  • THE GOVAN INTERCHANGE FORMS PART OF OUR WIDER GLASGOW SUBWAY MODERNISATION WORK FOR STRATHCLYDE PARTNERSHIP FOR TRANSPORT (SPT).

  • The main principles that inform the reconfiguration of the station building are derived from the general principles established within the Subway Modernisation Design Guide. These are applied to make the station building more welcoming, accessible, brighter, and more user friendly.

The materials palette has been distilled to reinforce the strategy of providing a simple, elegant experience to act as a backdrop
for the bolder effect of appropriate coloured materials and a good lighting strategy.

  • Forming the new spaces from as few, complementary elements as possible reduces visual complexity and adds to a sense of calm.

In addition to the refurbishment of the existing station building the canpoy simultaneously addresses the practical issues of providing shelter to interchange users and gives more civic presence to the building as a key component at the edge of Govan town centre.

The canopy forms a smooth external skin with a filigree structure beneath. It makes best use of new technologies and design solutions while acknowledging the station’s contribution to the urban landscape.
