A scheme for a new council headquarters in Carlisle by AHR Architects has been rubber-stamped by the local authority’s cabinet. The council has a £13 million maintenance backlog on the buildings and it expects to save £1 million a year in bills by selling the offices it doesn’t need. Costing around £10.5 million, the new office by AHR is designed to cut the council’s carbon output by nearly half, from 1,546 tonnes to 826 tonnes. Building work will be carried out by Eric Wright Construction with staff due to move into the new building by spring next year.
