HADLEY LEARNING CENTRE

  • THIS PROJECT IS PREDOMINANTLY NEW BUILD WITH SOME REFURBISHMENT TO A RETAINED CLASSROOM BLOCK DEDICATED TO ART AND GRAPHICS. DUE TO SITE CONSTRAINTS, CONSTRUCTION OF THE NEW SCHOOL WAS IN TWO PHASES.
  • AHR’s design concept was to reflect the dynamics of the school’s specialism in the performing arts integrating opportunities both internally and externally. The projecting rake of the studio theatre creates an external stage as a focus for the amphitheatre.

The central atrium is a truly multifunctional space providing opportunity for whole school assembly and the daily ebb and flow of dining. The drama studio walls open out to create a stage area, transforming the hall into a major performance space for school productions and celebration of their talent.
  • The siting of the building exploits the complex levels to maximise the integration of the building with its surrounding sports fields, bowling green, games courts and play areas. The site is fully integrated into the local community structure providing a green network of footpaths and cycle ways and supporting a new major urban focal space at the heart of the building – the multi-level forum.
