Balyett Gateway in Stranraer has won a place on the RIBA Journal MacEwen Award shortlist. This award recognises Architecture for the common good and the judging panel were particularly impressed with the extensive public engagement in establishing the brief. They also recognise an ongoing commitment to the local community and the look and feel of the area.
Sterling Prize-winning Architect and judge, Amanda Levete said: "Although the existing snack bar was really magical and cute, the redevelopment is really well done and it must make the place feel more loved."
The project is no stranger to the limelight, having received extensive coverage in the architecture and design press, including this Wallpaper article.
The MacEwan awards and commendations will be announced at the start of February. Read more here.
