Rochdale Interchange won the “Lancashire Regional Project of the Year Award” at the North West Regional Construction Awards held at the ceremony at the Palace Hotel in Manchester on Thursday night.
The first of Transport for Greater Manchester’s new generation of public transport facilities, the project forms a key component in the Rochdale Renaissance Masterplan. Delivered in partnerships with Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council, and Rochdale Development Agency, this £11.5m interchange opened in November 2013. The use of form and structure creates a dramatic and impressive gateway for visitors and daily users, providing an enhanced user experience, passenger facilities, capacity for growth and one of Europe’s first hydroelectric powered interchanges.
