The brief required individual entrances and internal arrangements which would reflect the specific needs of the students utilising these areas. This concept helps each component of the campus to function efficiently, safely and effectively as a unit, without adverse impact upon its neighbours.
The design solution delivers both the requirements of the individual schools and the aspiration for a campus as a whole, while maintaining a clear diagram and strong architectural form. The solution maximises the site to provide direct access to external spaces and creates a usable outside learning environment which can also be used for social gatherings.
The building’s proximity responds to the topography which is arranged along the edge of the bank to maximise the site available for sports pitches, parking and arrival space. This also allows the building to make the most of the views afforded by the site. Heart spaces, dining areas, creative spaces, flexible learning hubs and social spaces are arranged along the bank overlooking the site. The ‘big-box’ accommodation of halls, theatre, drama and activity spaces are arranged along the northern edge of the site away from the views.
