The chosen Academy site comprises of the Thomas Hall estate in north Exeter a Grade II listed house, with ancillary buildings, an extensive arboriculture collection across the 5.3 hectare site together with a walled garden. In recent years the site overall has fallen into disrepair and currently sits with its immediate future at risk if works to renovate it are delayed any further.
The Steiner Waldorf pedagogy and experience differs from that of a traditional school and as such reliance on the external landscape as a learning experience is vital to the educational needs of the child. This site offers a vast array of external features that can only enhance the site on the whole together with providing a deep and fulfilling relationship with the land for the student.
The Academy will have a total population of 624 pupils and though it is envisaged that many of these will be local to the school location, there is no boundary to the Academies catchment area. Currently this area of the city is underserved by educational facilities and it is hoped that many locals will use the Academy.
