SITUATED WITHIN 14 ACRES OF A FORMER WHISKY BOTTLING PLANT, THIS PROJECT WAS THE LARGEST SINGLE PROJECT INVESTMENT UNDERTAKEN BY BBC SCOTLAND AND ONE OF THE MOST EXTENSIVE SOAP SETS BUILT IN BRITISH TV HISTORY.
The project’s aim was to create a filming and production facility with supporting infrastructure, capable of producing a high quality, long running drama.
An external production filming set was meticulously designed and built, creating the fictitious Glasgow district of ‘Shieldinch’, complete with tenement buildings, rear courts, public house, shops, café, boatyard and builders yard.
Three separate 2000 m² existing buildings were each converted to create; a designated studio with internal filming sets, props, lighting and off line editing facilities; a fully enclosed, 86 space car park building; an office building with open plan and cellular offices, on-line editing suites, meeting and conference rooms, workshops, restaurant, make up facilities, changing rooms and individual actor / actress dressing rooms and green rooms.
