TEMPLE MEADS REGENERATION

  • AHR HAS WORKED WITH NETWORK RAIL FOR SEVERAL YEARS AT BRISTOL TEMPLE MEADS PRODUCING CONCEPTS AND GRIP STAGE 2 MASTERPLANNING FOR THE REGENERATION OF THE STATION. CONCEPTS PROVIDED A SERIES OF IDEAS TO ENABLE THE STATION TO BECOME A WORLD CLASS GATEWAY TO THE CITY AND ITS CENTRE.

  • Our initial work included enhanced passenger facilities and retail uses within and around the Grade 1 Listed Digby Wyatt Shed, alongside reducing station congestion and enhancing the operational performance. The study options ranged between zero costs to upwards of £30m.

Commercial opportunities were identified and the study addressed opening up pedestrian links across the rail corridor and improving the transport interchange facilities at the station.

Consultation with adjacent land owners, English Heritage and the Council took place through the various projects. The Practice worked closely with Network Rail, to produce detailed analysis of the existing and resultant pedestrian flows and consider structural implications /risks - the study addressed opening up pedestrian links across the rail corridor and improving the transport interchange facilities.

Later concepts provided canopy extensions to the Grade 1 Listed Digby Wyatt Shed to house the two new proposed platforms and the fast link to London. New entrances out towards Temple Quay and also to the north of the station were proposed.
